1   Know students and how they learn

I believe one of my strongest assets as a teacher is my ability to build relationships with students in order to foster and cater for their unique abilities, talents, interests and learning styles. I get along with students very well through positive daily interactions, getting to know their interests, providing humour and offering support and encouragement at all times.

Over the past 25 years, I have had extensive experience working with a diverse range of students, with a variety of ages, skills, abilities, cultures and developmental backgrounds. This has given me a set of valuable skills and abilities to provide effective pedagogical practices that support students and their cognitive, social, personal and physical growth and development.

Every student is different, and it is important that you develop a plan to adapt and tailor towards the unique needs of each student for effective learning. I welcome and embrace the unique differences, challenges and opportunities my students bring and ensure that every learner is catered for in my classroom.

2  Know the content and how to teach it

I have a sound knowledge of the EYLF and the Western Australian Curriculum SCSA documents.  I am a big supporter of implementing a range of creative teaching strategies within the classroom as every individual learns differently and it is imperative to cater to different learning styles to ensure effective learning. By doing this, we can make lessons relevant and useful for the student which has found to increase attention span, engagement, intrinsic motivation and retention of information
