3   Plan for and implement effective             teaching and learning

When creating learning programs, I aim to ensure that they are curriculum linked, timely, understandable, engaging and provide effective teaching strategies.  I pride myself on my creativity, organisation and planning skills when it comes to lesson design. I like to adopt a variety of teaching strategies to suit different learning needs and styles. I often experiment with a range of strategies and will cater my choices depending on my class and the students’ educational level, year group, prior knowledge, experience, skills and abilities. I love creating resources, challenging and inspiring students and incorporating ICT within the classroom to ensure that my teaching is engaging and effective. I am usually flexible with the implementation of programs and will almost always tweak lessons around the skills, abilities and prior knowledge of my students as well as time constraints. At the end of each unit, I often review the unit and see what went well, what could be improved and what could be changed.

4    Create and maintain supportive and         safe learning environments

I aim to establish a safe, positive, supportive, inclusive and productive classroom environment. It is crucial for this classroom environment to be established before any effective teaching and learning can occur. In order for students to feel safe, a place of belonging and inclusivity where diversity is respected and appreciated  must be built. Without this, I believe students are unable to grow and develop mentally, socially and physically. I create my classroom environment through strong student-teacher rapport, effective pedagogy, authoritative approaches to teaching and the establishment and reinforcement of classroom rules and expectations that support positive learning outcomes.

5   Assess, provide feedback and report       on student learning

I believe that assessment is a critical aspect of the teaching/learning cycle. Not only do assessments provide information for student development, but also benefit parents, schools, governments and teachers to identify areas of need and improvement.  Effective assessment practices are crucial for ensuring best practice and student learning.
