4.1   Support student participation

Identify strategies to support inclusive student participation and engagement in classroom activities.

During the COVID pandemic in 2020 I adapted my teaching and learning strategies to continue student participation and learning during this unprecedented time in education of school closures.  Luckily, my class have a 1:1 laptop programme so I was able to develop at home learning activities that were based on utlising such programmes as One Note and Teams.

I endeavoured to plan experiences that were based on SCSA outcomes and were still differentiated.  For example, I scheduled daily reading group sessions in ability groups were held via Teams live links to target specific learning needs.    The children and I communicated continously via Teams so I was able to continue to support their learning.  Parent sessions were also facilitated each Monday morning to discuss the home learning programme that was posted on One Note for the children to follow and complete for the week.  Feedback was given on work samples uploaded by the children to their One Note folders.  If explicit teaching was necessary then I would schedule a meeting on teams via a live link where children could also ask questions.  Audio files were also utlised on One Note where I recorded lesson introductions and set learning intentions for tasks.
