5 Assess, provide feedback and report on student learning
5.2 Provide feedback to students on their learning
Demonstrate an understanding of the purpose of providing timely and appropriate feedback to students about their learning.
I believe that students should receive feedback on their learning reularly and in a timely fashion of completing a task. In a writing lesson for example, I carry out teacher conferences once a child has drafted and edited their work. In a one on one conference, we explicitly reflect on the Success Criteria that have been achieved and those that need to be further developed. From this future learning goals can be identified.
For this feedback in my Year 5 class I utlise rubrics (such as the expected Information Report Sturcutre pictured left), or my "Two Stars and a Wish" stamp (also pictured left). A star is a success criteria the student has achieved, a wish is a success criteria they are still working on.
On my recent Phase 2 prac in a Pre Primary class, I used a 6 Star Writing Goal Poster where the children's names were moved to the goal they were working on and after they completed a piece of writing, conferenced one on one to check off on a mini checklist if they had achieived any or all of the 6 star writing goals. From this, future writing goals were then able to be set.
