Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the concepts, substance and structure of the content and teaching strategies of the teaching area.

Throughout my Phase 2 prac I was responsible for the planning and delivery of programmes in the Mathematics, English, Health and Physical Education, The Arts and Religion Learning Areas.

I had to familiarise myself with the Western Australian Curriculum documents, Scope and Seqences and the SCSA Judging Standards for the Foundation Year Level.

In the example of Visual Arts,   in Pre-primary, students explore personal experiences as an inspiration to create original artwork. Our unit of work focused on the children's use of line within their artwork so we began the unit by exploring the many and varied lines around our school environment and teh children took photos on ipads of lines that they found.  We drew lines with chalk on bricks in the outdoor courtyard.

The children investigated different lines by viewing several educational elements of art "line" clips on you tube.  We listened to music that made our body want to dance and make different lines in the air.

We integrated our learning in Mathematics by looking at linear patterns.   We explored the natural material of feathers and how the visual elements of shape, line and texture are present.  The children explored provocations where they created lines from loose parts and natural materials.   We developed our fine motor skills by drawing and cutting different lines and making them out of play dough and pipe cleaners.  We integrated our learning into H.A.S.S. and English, where during NAIDOC week, we studied the Aboriginal people's use of line in their artwork and dreamtime stories.  We created a rainbow serpent using different lines and used a scratch art technique to etch significant Aboriginal symbols from our local area.  The children completed several artworks with the focus of line and began to see themselves as artists as they displayed and shared their artwork with others.
